硫磺山在愛奴語為「Atosanupuri」，為裸露的山之意，為標高512公尺的活火山。在其週邊散步的話，可就近觀看到其噴氣口。由偃松所形成的淒涼 的風景，高山地帶有蝦夷磯白杜鵑的大群落，6月中旬～7月中旬開放的花朵將大地染成一片雪白。入口處的硫黃山餐廳裡的硫磺山自然廳，利用影像讓您能了解硫 磺山形成的歷史及採集挖掘硫磺的歷史。
